In parts of Uttar Pradesh – especially in the Koraon block of Prayagraj – many adults cannot read or write. Women are especially affected. Their literacy rate is much lower than that of men. For many women this means dependence, limited job opportunities, and little access to important information.
Together with our partner Stewards Trust, we want to restart an adult literacy program in 2025–26. We plan to open five learning centers in villages where the need is greatest. In each center, 10–15 adults will learn reading, writing, and simple mathematics.
The classes will also include lessons about health, hygiene, and nutrition. At the moment, our staff member Angel Rose, a trained diabetologist, is visiting our centers and giving seminars for women about healthy nutrition. She teaches how to improve the quality of daily meals by using simple, locally available food. This helps to improve the health of the whole family.
Our goal is clear: adults should learn to read and write, improve their living conditions, and give their children a better future. When parents receive education, it can change whole generations.
